Controlled Open Enrollment Process

  1. Complete a Lottery Application

  2. Receive an Offer to Register or Waitlist Status

  3. Accept Offer to Register

  4. Complete Registration

Step 1: Complete a Lottery Application
SJCA accepts applications via SchoolMint throughout the year. Florida law requires a random lottery when there are more student applicants than seats available in a particular grade. Please complete your lottery application here. The lottery for the next school year will be completed no later than January 31st of the current school year.
PLEASE NOTE:
You will be notified of lottery results via the email and phone number provided.
Step 2: Receive an Offer to Register or Waitlist Status
The number of student seats available in each grade will determine how many are sent offers to register. If your student is selected for a seat, you will receive an offer to register. If your student is placed on a waitlist due to more applicants than seats available, you will be notified of the waitlist status.
Step 3: Accept Offer to Register
When you receive the offer to register, you will have three days to accept the offer to let us know you plan to complete the registration process. To accept the offer, follow the instructions in the email or text received from SchoolMint.
Step 4: Complete Registration
The registration process is done through the county on ParentVUE and will open around May 1st. Once the county opens registration you will be notified and will need to log-in or create a new account. Registration must be completed once the window opens. No student will be permitted to start SJCA until registration has been completed.

 Enrollment FAQ

  • Yes, you may remain on the waitlist of the campus of your choice. If while attending one campus, you accept an offer from the other, you will be enrolled into that campus and disenrolled from your current campus. NOTE: Any enrollment or disenrollment will only occur with the consent of the parent or guardian.

  • Due to rising construction costs and profound bond rate increases, St. Johns Classical Academy has had a change of plans regarding the second campus. While our original intent was focused on new construction in the Lake Asbury area, cost estimates and bond financing made the cost prohibitive and the project not financially viable. We have turned our attention to renovating an existing property (1324 Kingsley Avenue) in order to replicate. Recently, we were presented with a tremendous opportunity to rehabilitate a former charter school in Orange Park. This will be a much smaller opening in August 2023 with only 360 students, grades K-3. Our plan is to add a grade level each year, ultimately becoming a K-12 school.

  • Yes, as soon as construction costs and bond rates decrease, we plan to move forward with the construction of a school in the Lake Asbury area.

  • Parents must fill out an application for SJCA's enrollment lottery via SchoolMint. First Enrollment Period - The enrollment lottery will take place on January 10, 2022. SJCA is a continuous open enrollment school. Subsequent applications will be accepted and ordered based on waitlist status. As seats become available, they will be offered to applicants according to this established order until capacity has been reached.

  • Email enrollment@stjca.org for moreinformation.

  • Yes! Please contact our school secretary to schedule a tour.

  • Once the application period has ended, in the event that more students have applied to a specific grade than there are seats available by the deadline established by St. Johns Classical Academy, a lottery will be held to determine which students will be offered the open seats. The following students may be given a priority in the admission process under state law:

    1. Scholars who were enrolled with St. Johns Classical Academy the year before.

    2. Scholars whose parents are employees of St. Johns Classical Academy.

    3. Scholars whose parents are on the Board of Directors of St. Johns Classical Academy.

    4. Scholars who have siblings enrolled with St. Johns Classical Academy.

  • Any siblings of SJCA scholars will have priority placement during the enrollment process as per Florida Statutes.

  • Siblings of new students will have priority placement during the enrollment process as soon as the new student completes the registration process.

SJCA Enrollment

We hope that you will explore our website and learn more about SJCA’s extraordinary program. SJCA is a tuition-free charter school chartered by Clay County School Board.

What SJCA is:

  1. St. Johns Classical Academy is a Classical Education school with a specific and well-defined purpose.

  2. SJCA is right for your child if:

    1. You feel too much time in your child’s current school is dedicated to technology, testing, fun and games, non-academic instruction, or socialization.

    2. You are looking for academic rigor, high-level reading material, instruction in virtue, studiousness, and traditional teaching methods.

    3. You want your child to be well-prepared for an intense college experience.

    4. You agree with and support SJCA’s vision of the Parent-School Partnership found in our Parent/Scholar handbook.

    5. You understand that a child’s behavior is primarily the responsibility of his or her parents.

What SJCA is not:

  1. St. Johns Classical Academy is not a reform school. If your child is having discipline issues at their current school, they will likely have discipline issues at SJCA.

  2. St. Johns Classical Academy is not an academic recovery school. If your child is having academic issues at their current school due to poor study habits or refusal to complete homework, they will likely have the same issues at St. Johns Classical Academy.

  3. St. Johns Classical Academy is not a typical public school. There is no BYOD policy here, and smart phones and other internet devices are not allowed on campus. Uniforms are mandatory. Discipline is rigorously enforced, sometimes requiring parental assistance.
