DIANE HUTCHINGS Founding President

Mrs. Hutchings is the President of the St. Johns Classical Academy Governing Board. In her professional life, she serves as the Clay County Tax Collector. In November 2020, Mrs. Hutchings retired from First Florida Credit Union as Managing Director of Investment Services.
During her 20-year career in the financial services industry, Mrs. Hutchings enjoyed practicing financial planning at Smith Barney, Prudential and finally First Florida Credit Union. She has dedicated herself to serving her community in many roles. In 1993, she began serving on the Green Cove Springs City Council where she also served a term as mayor. In 2012, she was elected to represent District 3 on the Clay County Commission and has served two terms as Chairman and two terms as Vice Chairman. Diane is a member of Orange Park Sunrise Rotary and a Trustee on the Board of Orange Park Medical Center.
In August 2015, Mrs. Hutchings began her journey as a founder of St. Johns Classical Academy. She feels that outside of raising her children, the Academy has been her most important and fulfilling life’s work.
Mrs. Hutchings resides in Clay County with her husband, Brett, and their two adult children, daughter Ashley Gilhousen (Adam) and their three sons Aiden, Brantley and Caleb, and son Kyle, (Tiffaney) their children Raegan, Claire, Wyatt, and William. The family attends Hibernia Baptist Church and Diane and Brett enjoy serving in the preschool ministry.

AMY MILLER Founding Treasurer

Mrs. Miller is a licensed, professional engineer in the state of Florida. As a lifelong Clay County resident, she graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental engineering. She later completed a Master of Business Administration also from the University of Florida. Her work experience began as a civil engineer and eventually lead to construction materials where she currently serves as a national director for a construction trade association.
In Clay County, Mrs. Miller served as a Guardian ad Litem, served as a member of the Clay County Charter Review Committee and currently serves on the Board of the Clay Chamber of Commerce. She was a founding member of the Northeast Florida Structural Engineers Association where she served as president. She also served as president of the state executive board of the Florida Structural Engineers Association. She is a founding member and immediate past-president of the Women of Asphalt.

JIM HORNE Board Member

Mr. Horne is a lifelong resident of northeast Florida growing up in the westside of Jacksonville but has lived the last 35 years in Clay County. He is an active member of the community having served on numerous local boards and charitable organizations. He is a founding partner of the Strategos Group, a public affairs firm headquartered in Tampa with offices in Tallahassee, Indiana, Maryland, and Idaho.
Mr. Horne graduated from Florida State University in 1980 with an accounting degree and started his professional career with Price Waterhouse in Jacksonville. He formed his own CPA firm in Orange Park in 1985 and was a practicing CPA until 2001. He was elected to the Florida Senate in 1994 in his first run for political office and re-elected unopposed in 1998. Mr. Horne chaired various legislative committees including Education Appropriations, Finance and Tax and the full Ways and Means and served on numerous education task forces and blue-ribbon committees.
In June of 2001 Governor Jeb Bush appointed Mr. Horne as the first ever appointed Commissioner of Education for the state of Florida. He was responsible for the K-20 education system in the country overseeing K-12, Community Colleges and Universities. Mr. Horne retired from public office in August of 2004 and returned to private life in Clay County.
Mr. Horne lives in Fleming Island with his wife Lori, who have been married 34 years. They have four grown children and three of them reside in Clay County, along with 3 grandchildren. They are active members of River Christian Church. Mr. Horne's hobbies include an occasional round of golf and some hunting and fishing but primarily just hanging out with his children and grandchildren.

Carlyle Martin Board Member

Mr. Martin is the owner of Martin Properties, Inc. a company specializing in commercial properties located in Orange Park and Fleming Island.
Mr. Martin is an Eagle Scout with two psalms and earned the God and Country Award. There are 8 Eagle Scouts in his family. He graduated from Jacksonville University in May 1973 with a bachelor’s in science degree in Management and Marketing. He enjoyed rowing on the crew team while attending JU.
Carlyle is married to Gayle Martin who is a board-certified cardiologist in private practice on Fleming Island. They have been married for 40 years and are the parents of three children (Carlyle, Lauren and Barron) and two grandchildren. In their leisure time, Carlyle and Gayle enjoy boating, working on Saturday projects and just being in the outdoors. They recently purchased a travel trailer and want to explore God’s great earth.

Ryman Shoaf Board Member

Captain Shoaf retired from an extensive 27-year career in the United States Navy in 2012. His career included eight deployments, 3,500 flight hour 1,007 traps (landings) on 11 different aircraft carriers. He served as commander of two squadrons, Sea Control Weapons School and the VS-30 Diamondcutters. His last tour was as a senior officer in charge of the Navy Department for the National War College in Washington D.C. where he taught National Security Strategy and Policy. During his career, Ryman received the Navy Marine Corps Leadership award and the Admiral James L. Holloway III Leadership for Senior Officers.
Captain Shoaf is a 1985 graduate of The Citadel with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He went on to earn double master’s degrees in Aeronautical Science & Strategic Studies and National Security Affairs.
Ryman and his wife Susan have been married for over 25 years and they have 2 children, Erin and Nathan.
