Florida's New Reading Scholarship Account Application Process Begins August 13, 2018
The 2018 Florida Legislature passed and the Governor signed into law, House Bill 7055, the first reading scholarship account for students enrolled in Florida's public schools.
The reading scholarship account will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis to students who scored a Level 1 or 2 on the grade 3 or grade 4 Florida Standards Assessment in English Language Arts for the 2017-2018 school year. The scholarship amount is $500. Parents of approved students will use the scholarship fund to purchase materials or services, such as tutors, textbooks and curriculum, and then seek reimbursement.
For the 2018-2019 school year, Step Up For Students is the only scholarship funding organization approved by the Florida Department of Education to administer the reading scholarship account. They will be responsible for determining whether a student qualifies for the scholarship.
The Step Up For Students reading scholarship application will open on Monday, August 13, 2018. Parents must submit an application to the scholarship funding organization directly. However, families can be added to the "interest list" before the application process opens.
