Another fabulous part of our curriculum is our Scholars being able to read, write and recite poetry through exploration of content.
Here are 3rd Grade Scholars from Mrs. Melson’s class reciting “Father William” by Lewis Carrol.
Our First Grade Scholars are not just learning cursive and multiplication, they're also learning sentence diagramming.
Here are two of our Scholars, Anibella and Deven, learning and putting their sentence diagramming into good practice!
Part of what makes St. Johns Classical Academy stand out from other schools is the literature we have our Scholars read. Due to our unique literature selection that builds on prior acquired knowledge, our Scholars read whole books for comprehension of content as opposed to excerpts from select books or articles.
We invite you to view our SJCA Literature Showcase for the 2018-2019 school year below!
Last night, the Duval County Public Schools school board approved Cornerstone Classical Academy as the first Hillsdale-BCSI academy in Duval County! The Founding Board sat before the DCPS School Board for a two-hour interview for approval and initiation.
This is a huge accomplishment for BCSI as well as other BCSI schools within the state of Florida!
Our 5th Grade Scholars are learning about internal organs. Pictured below are some of Mrs. Stratton's 5th Grade Scholars.
Can we say "Future Physicians and Medical Professionals"?
Morning Car Line
Please arrive on campus as close to 7:30 A.M. as possible. Campus video footage shows that most traffic is arriving at 7:50am, which is pushing the car line well past 8:00 A.M. Please help your scholar arrive on time so that he/she does not miss instructional time beginning at 8:00 A.M.
Thanks again for your help in this effort!
From Mr. Clarke, our Director of Bands -
"The Saint Johns Classical Academy Jazz Combo received a rating of "Excellent" (a 2/5 rating, with Superior being 1/5 as the highest) at the Jacksonville University Jazz Festival. Programs like this usually put in several years of work to get this rating, with Superior being seldom awarded. Though the majority of Scholars are in middle school, we were rated amongst other area high school ensembles.
We are coming back to SJCA with a plaque that will hang in the upstairs music room to signify this achievement."
Let's give a round of applause to Mr. Clarke and his outstanding effort and dedication to SJCA's Music Department and our Scholars!
SJCA is announcing a new traffic pattern for both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
Beginning March 26th, all vehicles will now enter the southern exit on Canova Rd., coming from Old Hard Rd. All vehicles will now exit the school premises using the north exit and we are encouraging all vehicles to turn right to head south on Canova Rd..
Please take a look at the two images below of our traffic pattern.
The primary difference between the two maps is that there are two lanes open for morning drop-off and three lanes open for afternoon pick-up. Our new traffic flow might take some time to perfect, but we can do this together.
Daycare buses, car pool students and larger vehicles (trucks pulling trailers, etc.) will need to continue to use the day care bus lane.
Thank you, kindly, for your patience and flexibility while SJCA grows.

The Book Fair is coming to SJCA! From Monday, March 11th through Friday, March 15th, your Scholar can shop for amazing titles published by Usborne and Kane Miller Books!
Also, several of our teachers have created personal wish lists with items they would love to use in their own classrooms. The Book Fair Representative will have printed copies of these wish lists available in Room 210. Some teachers have also created an online wish list that parents can search by typing the teacher's last name under “Find a Wish List.”
Additionally, parents can begin shopping now by using the following link. It will take them directly to the SJCA sale page. The sale will be both online and at school.
We have updated our Family and Scholar Handbook. You may find the updated version by clicking on this link here.
Please take a moment to review St. Johns Classical Academy's handbook for our school policies pertaining to academics, discipline, uniforms and more.
Our Scholars in 4th through 6th Grades had an opportunity to merge classes with both Mr. Clarke's Music class with Mrs. Vallazza's (Ms. V's) Spanish classes last week to learn more about Afro-Latino Rhythms and music in honor of Black History Month. Scholars used drums, rhythms sticks, claves and also learned about the Güiro/Güira and how these instruments are featured in Afro-Latino music.
Here are some pictures featuring some of the dancing the Scholars got to participate in.
Also pictured are some of our younger Scholars in Kindergarten through 3rd grade as Mrs. Vallazza showed them in regular Spanish class different musical styles and rhythms of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and Cumbia.
Mark your calendars! Our next Spirit Day will take place on Friday, March 1st.
To participate by showing your school spirit, you may wear jeans (no holes or rips, please), an SJCA Spirit Shirt or your PE or Class Shirt. You may wear closed-toe shoes or sneakers with your Spirit Wear. Scholars not participating in Spirit Day must come attired in your regular SJCA uniform.
Any further questions may be directed to "info@StJCA.org".
