Sixth Grade Artwork in Action
Our 6th Grade Scholars are hard at work in Mrs. Rice's art class this week. They had an exercise in observational drawing where each table had a wooden figure that Scholars could pose any way they chose.
The results are below for your enjoyment!
We are proud of SJCA sixth grade scholar, Davin Smiley~
SJCA Board Member, Mr. Scott Norteman, attended the district spelling bee and writes the following:
Davin Smiley (6th grade) represented SJCA extremely well tonight in the district spelling bee.
There were 38 contestants from all of Clay County's elementary and junior high schools.
Davin made it through eleven rounds and survived to 4th place overall.
From about round six and up, the competition was extremely tough.
He definitely set a new standard for SJCA and turned many heads in the process.... lots of "who is that kid'..."is he from SJCA?"
In addition to his performance tonight, he also looked sharp....he was the only one wearing a tie.
After speaking with his parents and hearing him discuss how much he prepared for the event, it is no surprise that he made it as far as he did.
Please let him know how proud we all are.
Mrs. Heaton’s first grade class rescued a butterfly which became paralyzed due to freezing temperatures. The students trapped and warmed the butterfly overnight in their classroom and released it the next day in perfect health!
We are proud of the SJCA Safety Patrol
Provided the leadership of Mrs. Stratton, the SJCA Safety Patrol is the only school in Clay County that is participating in the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Safety Patrol Trip to Washington DC this year.
Mrs. Stratton explains that--
Our safety patrol students are working extremely hard to exemplify our SJCA virtues and be role models for our student body. They work in the freezing mornings and blazing afternoons. They help in the cafeteria, take care of our amazing flag (raise it in the morning and lower it in the afternoons), and run all sorts of errands for staff during drop off and dismissal. Never complaining, but instead asking how else they can serve. Twelve new patrollers joined the Safety Patrol last week in the new recruitment process!
SJCA is supporting the Safety Patrol in two Dress-down Fundraisers scheduled for 2/14 and 3/15. These events have been noted on the SJCA Calendar and added to The St. Johns Classical Post.
The attire for the two days will soon be shared.

We are thrilled that Sheriff Daniels shares the vision for classical education in Clay County and is eager to
build upon what we have begun.
See his wonderful accomplishments below. We are pleased to welcome Sheriff Daniels to SJCA!
